This paper discusses the book "Ordinary Men" by Christopher R. Browning, a book about Reserve Battalion 101 of German police who were recruited to help exterminate Jews and others in Poland in World War II, and the issue raised is why such ordinary people participated in this horror and what makes people behave in this fashion, considering what Browning writes and what some other writers he cites have to say on the subject.
